This is our first conversation with the illustrator from Canada designer, artist, and teacher Maia Faddoul. Maia is the first generation Canadian artist who is based in her Montreal studio. She draws vibrant and vivid illustrations for packaging, editorials, publishing, and more. Her style is high contrast, colorful, and bold usually with a subtle political message hidden somewhere.

Maia is a complete color lover as well as a kind of excessive person in her artistic style. Maia utilizes her work as a way to express her opinions, voice out on injustices, and bring awareness to causes that mean a lot for her.  I see my drawing style as "High Contrast'.

I see my style as vivid, high-contrast and colorful, often with a subtle social justice message hiding somewhere. I'm an absolute color lover and kind of a excessive person in my artistic style.

 What's the most important thing to making your illustrations?

A major aspect of my practice is making artwork that is reflective of my values and values. I'm not exactly the most vocal or extroverted person, so I usually utilize my work as a means to voice my beliefs, speak out about injustices and spread awareness to causes that mean a significant amount to me.
