Paul Choi is a Senior Community Manager here at . We're turning the spotlight over to him on our blog to highlight his role at , a significant time in Asian American and Pacific Islander time, and much more!
What can you tell us about what you do here at ?
In our Community Team, we are responsible for the Hero Community and other community -driven initiatives and sources. Our goal is to assist in connecting people around the globe and help our Heroes to succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavors with community programs and tools.
What is a professional accomplishment that you are particularly happy about?
How has your cultural identity impacted your journey working in tech?
It's something I'm trying to better understand myself.
Do you celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month If so, what does it mean to you?
No, not specifically AAPI Heritage Month, but when I was growing up, I attended and participated in Korean celebrations of culture and heritage including festivals and different campaigns. As with many others, I've realized how important these types of cultural moments and events can be in understanding the concept of identity and belonging.
Could you share any event or individual that you have encountered in AAPI time that has significance for you?
Most meaningful would have to be my parents, and all of the other numerous families of immigrants who retreated themselves to seek out higher-quality opportunities elsewhere. It's a bit mind-blowing to consider the types of challenges faced by the earlier generation of AAPI community. Additionally, I must say that I will never forget what an experience Linsanity was...so thank you at Jeremy Lin!
How do you participate with the AAPI group?
I typically seek out communities in my workplaces where I spend the most time. Therefore, in my college years I took part heavily with KSA (the Korean Students Association) as well as at other workplaces I've participated in different AAPI specific ERGs.
What are you most excited doing at work ?
My most favorite thing about working with is the people and the teams that I'm able to work with. I really appreciate the friendly and supportive atmosphere that's been created, and the passion that exists for our product and our customers is really inspiring to work in.
Is there anything else you'd like to share on this topic to our readers on our blog?
This is a shameless way to invite our clients to sign up for the Hero Community! We're going to continue to build the most engaged, and enriched social experience that we can and would like to meet our customers there!
