My background
My name is Ekaterina Boguslavskaya. I was born in Russia.
I went to school in Moscow however, I also spent my summers out in the country.
There was no hot water The house was heated with a heater as well as the neighbor's raised cows and goats. Wonderful times! In addition to nature and bikes I was a huge fan of animated cartoons. All my peers grew up and stopped liking cartoons. I was exactly the opposite! I realized it could become my favorite thing to do. That's how I got into the film academy at Moscow, Russia.
My style
I would like my artwork to always bring out some deeply emotional emotions. It's like sitting in front of the fire after your day in the woods.
My procedure
I am awestruck by the drawing process. The process has a lot in common with meditation. While I'm at work I can see it getting dark outside, I'll get hungry, but that's not really what is important while in the process.
Today, I'm employed both in the industry of animation and illustration... and there are board games too. I truly love my job.
I've always drawn often. But it started to look better when I graduated. As I decided what and how I draw.
My suggestions to doubtful visual artists
Think about what you like and enjoy it. Try to listen less to people who you don't like what they do. It will all work out! You will meet people who will be enthralled by what you're doing.
My technique
I draw everything I can on my iPad in Procreate. Sometimes I finish an item in Photoshop.
The iPad has changed my lifestyle. Now I work in bed, in cafes, and in libraries. I choose a place for work and travel, and I don't just sit on my laptop. Therefore, the iPad is a wonderful tool that combines classic drawing and computer drawing.
The iPad is loaded with great brush brushes. For example, I purchased watercolor brushes through "The Watercolor MaxPack - Brushes for Procreate". Every time I use them, I am ecstatic. I make use of the brushes. They are very close to the real thing as is possible.
A few thoughts on what I do for work
It is my goal to create a rough outline of the objects. Because I find hard outlines brutal and cold.
Sometimes, I tint my shadows cold bluish with the multiply setting. Sometimes I employ overlay. But I don't understand that very much.
Procreate offers some excellent blur options, check them out! There are several varieties, and they're excellent. But mostly I draw as I do it with classic tools on paper or canvas.
I'm still searching, still learning about my subject while trying to move closer to the image I enjoy by doing my own projects.
Information about the Teriberka series
I visited there following my travels (to Teriberka). Russian North, the Arctic. It was a town that used to build ships and catch a lot of fish. Today, it's a little abandoned.
Google it, please! It's beautiful.
I'm always impressed by the North.
I love the people, the animals as well as the multitude of colors of moss. The tiny berries have a lot of vitamin C, which is more than any tropical fruit. This is quite impressive.
Northern rock formations look similar to the skin of huge elephants! This is the feeling which I have tried to portray through the photos.
The Tiny Things series
The idea for this project came to my mind after I had become exhausted of work, the pandemic as well as the city.
I picked up a macro lens and went deep into the woods. It was amazing how beautiful was right under my feet! Every inch of nature was breathtaking. It gave me plenty of inspiration and creativity. It was how this project came about.
No matter what happens it is possible to find a miracle just beneath your feet!
How I organize my time for work?
The most difficult thing to do is keep your time and sleep in check as well as refuse requests that aren't appropriate. Also, to commit to many tasks and try to survive and not get tired of doing what you love. This is all I'm still trying to master.
Concerning the blocks to creativity
The hard element is the actual process and sometimes the process doesn't work out. The result isn't what I want. You can go through 8 hours and then get annoyed. After that, just a few days later, you can redo it in an hour and everything looks good. What's that? Magic.
This is my little piece of advice on how to overcome creative blocks
When there is some kind of task - do not sit down immediately to draw (if it's possible). Your brain should be able to process the task as you go along working on other tasks. It's the way I see the best solutions come.
My view of my work
If I had to rate my work, I wouldn't give myself an "excellent". It's very exhausting and I am a slave to myself. However, on the other side I am pushed to move forward.
Drawing is like a great adventure!
If you have tickets to another country. You already know something about it on Google, something will surprise you right on the spot. At first, it looks to be an exciting adventure to me.
You can find other works by Ekaterina on and keep an eye out for an extension of this series on Instagram , Artstation or Behance.
