My personal background

My name is Ekaterina Boguslavskaya. I grew up in Russia.

I went to school in Moscow however, I also lived outdoors in the countryside.

The water was not hot and the home was heated by a furnace which was used by the neighbors to raise cows and goats. Wonderful times! Besides nature and bicycles I was obsessed with animated cartoons. All my peers grew up and stopped liking cartoons. I was exactly the opposite! It was then that I realized that it would become my most-loved activity. That's how I got into film school located in Moscow, Russia.

My style

I would like my artwork to always provoke some profound feelings. As if you are sitting with a fire in the middle of an afternoon of ski through the forest.

My method

I love the process of drawing. There's something that it shares with meditation. If I'm in the process of working in the dark, it might get dark and dark. I may also become hungry, but that's not really what affects me while working.

Now I'm employed both in the animation industry and illustration... and I even design board games. I really love my job.

I've always drawn a lot. However, it began to look more professional after I finished my degree. As I decided the way and what I would draw.

My advice to doubtful visual artists

Think about what you like and enjoy it. Do your best to not listen to people who you don't appreciate what they're doing. Everything will work out! You will meet people who appreciate what you've done.

My technique

I sketch almost every thing on my iPad using Procreate. Sometimes I finish some thing using Photoshop.

The iPad has really improved my lifestyle. Now I work in my bed, at libraries, in cafes. When I pick a location to work. I also move around, I don't just sit in front of my computer. So the iPad is an amazing tool that blends traditional drawing and computer drawing.

The iPad comes with amazing brushes. For example, I purchased watercolor brushes through "The Watercolor MaxPack - Brushes for Procreate". Every time I use them, I am ecstatic. I try these brushes. They are very close to the real thing as is possible.

A few thoughts on the way I conduct my work

I attempt to draw an outline sketch of objects. As I find hard edges rough and cold.

Sometimes I make my shadows cold and bluish by using the multiplier setting. Sometimes I employ overlay. It's a bit confusing for me. how it works.

Procreate offers some excellent blur settings. Try these out! There are several varieties, and they're excellent. However, I prefer drawing as I draw using traditional materials on canvas or paper.

I'm still searching, still learning about my subject while trying to move closer to the image I like by making my own projects.

Information about the Teriberka series

I visited there following my travels (to Teriberka). Russian North, the Arctic. The town was once built ships to capture a large amount of fish. Now it's kind of abandoned.

Please Google it! It is very beautiful.

I always like the North.

I am a fan of the people, the animals as well as the multitude of colors of Moss. Small berries are packed with vitamin C, which is more than any tropical fruit. This is quite impressive.

Northern cliffs look like the skin of giant elephants! This is the feeling that I tried to show in the pictures.

The Tiny Things series

The idea for this project came to my thoughts when I was very tired of work, the pandemic and the city.

Photos of the forest

I bought a macro lens and went into the forest. And how much incredible beauty was under my feet! Everything was beautiful. It gave me lots of energy to create. It was how this project was born.

In spite of everything it is possible to find a miracle right under the feet!

How I organize my time for work?

The hardest thing is to keep your time and sleep in check as well as answer 'no' to offers that are not particularly suitable. Or to take on many tasks and to try without getting tired of doing what you love. All this I am still studying.

The creative blockages

The hard part is the process itself - sometimes it doesn't work out. It's not what I like about the outcome. You can go through up to eight hours and get angry. After that, just a few days afterwards, you can redo the task in just an hour, and everything looks good. What's that? Magic.

This is my little piece of advice about how to get over creativity blocks

When there is some kind of task - do not sit down immediately to draw (if you can). Allow your mind to think on the side while working on other tasks. That's how I think the best solutions come.

My view of my work

If I had to rate my own work - I would never give myself the grade of "excellent". It's very exhausting and I torture myself. However, on the other side I am pushed to move forward.

Drawing is like an adventure!

If you have tickets to another country. You have a knowledge of it from Google but something might surprise you on the spot. At first, it looks as if it would be a great adventure for me.
