Artist Vlog - Riso Chan

Riso Chan about embracing her authentic self in artwork:

My work is extremely emotional. My work is based on portraits which depict the emotions I am feeling. I was always a very sensitive person. Since I was a child there was something that always felt a bit uneasy and I attempted to get it out of my system. (...) When you get older to maturity, you realize that everything is fine and everybody feels differently. I decided to use all the emotional energy I have to my daily life and start painting. I draw on it to stimulate my creative juices and generate new ideas. This is astonishing because of the thing I had been trying to push down for all of my life suddenly, I put on a piece of paper and seemed like a great feeling of relief. Finally, there is the possibility to utilize this feeling, and I am able to use my emotions, pains, and joys to put them down on paper. The experience was truly wonderful and took me to a state that was filled with gratitude. The experience began to resonate with a number of others too. I began to open to putting ideas on paper that I never thought of before. As opposed to trying to be like other artists who previously "made it" I was really listening to what I want to express and the person I am as a person. I accepted something I didn't like about me and realized this was my true power. I'm very happy to be the most sensitive me.
