Artist Vlog - Riso Chan

Riso Chan about embracing her true, sensitive self through art:

My work is extremely emotionally charged. I work on portraits that portray the things I'm feeling. I was always a very sensitive and sensitive person. Since I was a child there was something that always felt a bit uneasy and I attempted to get it out of my system. (...) When you get older and realize that everything is fine and everybody feels different. I decided to make use of all the emotional energy I have to my daily life and start painting. I use it to fuel my creative juices and generate fresh ideas. This is astonishing because of the thing I had been striving to get rid of all day suddenly I put it down on paper, and it felt like such a release. There is finally an area where I am able to utilize this feeling, and I am able to use my emotions, pains, and joys and put them on paper. It felt really awesome and took me to a place where I felt grateful. The experience began to resonate with a number of others too. I was opening up and putting things onto paper that I had never thought of before. Instead of trying to become similar to other artists who had already "made it" I was really listening to what I wanted to express and who I am as an individual. I accepted something I didn't like about me and realized this was my true power. I am really happy being my true sensitive self.
