We asked Titika what was the secret to making her black and white photographs

"My Name is Titika Rotkjaer. I'm an artist from Copenhagen, Denmark. After studies in communication at Roskilde University, Denmark, I relocated to Norway to further my studies in visual art, first in the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, later in Bergen which is where I completed my studies in visual art in the Bergen Academy of Art and Design with a MA in Textile Art. There is no formal training in photography. My understanding of editing and photography comes through continuous education on my own.

Are you interested in learning more about my personal style? Could I talk about style rather than style? I never think about style... Telling stories from an artistic and personal viewpoint In each photograph I concentrate on mood, expression, the ambience. The way I create my photos is a procedure. It is my goal to always refine and clear the meaning. Sometimes , I edit old photos in the event that I acquire new information that allows me to move closer to what I wanted to create.

My secret ingredient to create my mysterious photographies ...? In most of my images which I've made in the last four years - I've explored the complex and the self, with a special interest in the relationship between the inner and external worlds. Some of my photographs - but not all - are constructed digitally of several pictures (all, of course, shot by myself).

My approach usually begins with an intrigue or desire to investigate a particular theme or a complex of emotions. I shoot, write notes, and then read for greater knowledge. I then take another shot. Working with the images often inspires me to make an entirely new image from several other. I experiment, subjectively, and intuitively with the subject matter to let my photographs develop. There isn't a clear vision of the final product within my head, but I do then shoot the elements to create the picture."
