Collage art - The CreativeMindClass Blog

In the afternoon of Sunday, I caught Olga posting Instagram stories of my hometown from my youth. In the middle of Warsaw's urban jungle is a lesser-known, revered green zone. I would visit it during the summer months to gaze at beautiful old pine trees and take a breath of the natural world inside my urban lung. In her tale, Olga visited this area on her first trip, however she was also captivated by one of the longest backyards in Warsaw. In the near future, I am sure she'll create a Boernerowo inspired painting.

We inquired with Olga about her process for making her minimal collages and painting of landscapes that are human-shaped.

"My name is Olga Szczechowska, and I'm living in Warsaw. From the time I was a kid, I've been drawing and painting often. I was a student at the art high school, and was a student of Drawing and Cultural Studies at the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Torun.

I'm a painter, illustrator as well as graphic designer. My work is a examine the interplay between humans and nature, closely observing how we shape the environment in our backyards. By looking at trimmed hedges as well as decorative plants and carefully designed gardens for homes I'm trying to capture the mysterious nature of our immediate surroundings."

"For many years, I've also been creating simple collages. These collages were inspired by landscapes, still life, or are made as the result of explorations with textures, shapes and colors.

My style is eclectic because painting and collages are very different, but they have one thing in common: they soothe. I've heard the term "soothing" from my audience many times and believe that best describes the essence of my art. When I'm tired of painting, I create collages and vice versa. A certain style can be a brief escape from the other.

I believe that being aware is essential. I pay attention to everything I see, including the environment, architecture and objects. This is evident in my work. In my works, you do not see a human being, but we get the feeling of humans in the hedges that are trimmed or in a cup left on the table."
