Hand-made and custom made top hats, masks, crowns, butterfly wings and paintings for backdrops. methods to record the details that are inspired by vintage noir movies from the 1930s and 40s. Numerous hours of planning and patience goes into every photo of fine art by the gifted Italian photographer Giulia Valente.

We have asked Giulia what the key to producing her high-quality photography was. This is her tale.

"I graduated from Padua University, with a degree in Music, Art and Theater in the year 2006. I have always been attracted to art. One thing I enjoy about living in Italy is the fact that art is everywhere, making it simple to get inspired.

My style is defined as fine-art photography. I am able to see the continuity between photography and painting. In many ways photography is like painting's younger cousin. Paintings, more than photos is my primary source of inspiration when planning to shoot-retouch-and-retouch an upcoming project."

"Giovanni Gastel," the recently passed away Italian photographer, once said that you have to trash 10 000 good ideas before picking the one that is right for you. In my own way to implement this method. In fact, I have many ideas in my journal sketch notes, notes and thoughts that are bound to remain on paper forever.

The most important step when working on a new project is planning. Pre-production is crucial to take decisions to define and concentrate on the concept, and then draw sketches, gather objects or props... It can be a difficult and lengthy process because photography of this type demands a great deal of focus or even an obsession with the fine details, those things that you may not immediately take notice of, but which could make all the impact."

What was the key in making the caterpillar photos?

"In the specific situation of this Caterpillar initiative, I tried to determine the characteristics that identify the character, that make him identifiable: the color blue as well as the hookah smokes and the wings when he turns into a butterfly, and also the attitude - perhaps a little conceited and careless. After that, I attempted to bring all of these features together, combining them with the main style of the image I imagined.

The 3rd of May, 2021 an exhibition of my selected artworks was opened at the Laboratorio Cardin(Padua, Italy). I'm very happy and grateful as this is my first show."

A selection of her exquisite art photos, which are inspired by Italian and Flemish painting of the The XV and XVI century, you can view them on Instagram and on her Website.
