A fundamental part in the process of making geometric drawings is the anticipation of unforeseen outcomes. Marc emphasises that every shape and colour selection can be seen as an impulse reaction to those shapes and colours already drawn. Optical illusions, fake shadows, the transformation from flatness to dimensions, all seemingly basic aspects - when exhibited at Ampersand Gallery in Portland last year, they amazed the viewers.

"My Name is Marc David Spengler, I'm 25 years old and currently reside in a suburb in Stuttgart, Germany. Since I was a little kid, I've been drawing a lot. I remember when I was in 5th grade, I wrote my dream job was to be a car artist. In the next few years at the age of 12 I was introduced to the art of graffiti which has been an enormous inspiration source for me from the beginning.

What is the reason artists choose to use geometric shapes?

There's no way to find an artist doing real graffiti in the present However, I'm watching geometric forms every day via magazines, social media and books. When I finished school in 2014, I began studying communication design in the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and am currently learning today as a student in the class of Patrick Thomas.

Apart from my studies In addition, I'm involved in exhibitions along with brand collaborations as well as my sketchbooks. In terms of my illustration style I'm working mostly using abstract geometric forms and bright colour combinations that I try to balance in the frame I've created for myself. The goal of every illustration which I'm working on is to create an atmosphere of harmony.

How to do geometric art?

For creating geometric art I don't have an initial pencil sketch and a majority of my sketches are fictitious. I love to begin my work from the outside, sketching a silhouette of the background and then I imagine what might be happening on the inside. So I'm constantly reacting to the previously drawn shapes, which makes it very intriguing for me as I don't even know what the final result will look at the end.

I favor making simple geometric illustrations because I have an easier view of the design and I am less likely to overwhelm it by adding numerous details. While drawing, I love to play with the given variables, such as adding the illusion of shadows or an optical illusion, since everything is feasible in the world of two dimensions."
