Here's What You Need From the Conference App of 2024. (+ 8 Choices) |
In the past year, a number of participants of our Mighty Team went to Craft and Commerce ConvertKit's annual convention held in Boise, Idaho. The highlight was experiencing as the app for conference!
The demand for apps at events is expanding, with more than 72% of event organizers agreeing that an app was vital in the successful run at a recent conference. The research conducted by G2 found that 65percent of event organizers are planning to utilize a conference application for things like check-ins, AI and QR codes and even virtual reality experiences.
In this piece we'll draw from our experience and research to explore the elements that make a good conference app. We'll cover:
- What makes a great conference application.
- How to choose a mobile conference app.
- Ten of the most effective conferences apps available.

What is a conference application?
The conference app provides the virtual experience of a live or hybrid event. The first iterations of apps for conferences were essentially mobile conference schedules. As the technology has evolved conferences apps have developed to offer more functions to serve members-things like managing members' tickets, ticketing as well as more interactive schedules.
However, a contemporary conference application extends beyond a simple timetable. Tech can make conferences better. More enjoyable. More successful.
A conference app can be a software program that
- Aids guests to find and make life-changing friends.
- Allows participants to make new content, and then add it to the experience.
- Takes care of payments, registrations and tickets.
- You can deliver the conference using your own branded app.
We learned at a meeting with our app
Boise, Idaho was baking in the heat of summer. When the conference started, we felt the excitement. It was a great conference with amazing speakers like Ali Abdaal and Cody Sanchez as well as a talk on starting a million-dollar community with our own CEO, Gina Bianchini.
The magic of the event came from an amazing lineup of speakers, a stunning venue, and-of course-300plus amazing artists who gathered together to create the event. You know. This is exactly what every conference needs.
However, behind the scenes, there was something else going on:
- Chat in the conference app had been exploding with "strategic selfies" (speaker John Meese suggested you take these")
- Attendees were organizing the event, adding posts and running their own awesome meetings for activities like white-water rafting, running and the hike to the canyon at sunrise (for those who could handle the 5:00 am wake up).
- Creators shared what they'd been up to or asking for help-and the mobile conference app was blowing up with responses!
- When you walk around Boise, you'll see young people enjoying lunch at some of Boise's best eateries (and yes, this probably included potatoes in some form).
The app made this possible!
The app for conference wasn't only for scheduling and ticketing. It was an exciting, virtual conference that happened in conjunction with the actual one. It was clear that the app was loaded with conference information and was extremely helpful!
But it was the attendees who made the conference app come alive with photos, stories asking for help as well as suggestions on all kinds of business-related ideas, from gluten-free eateries within Boise.
Here's what made it work to such a degree. And here's what to seek out in a conference app.
What should you look for in a conference application
- The schedule of conferences (obviously), but also RSVPs and engagement with sessions within the app.
- Fantastic communication tool to use for messaging and sending emails to participants , and taking care of support and questions.
- The tools for connecting attendees to others: like rich profiles, social links, chat & messages. The true magic of the conference apps is when attendees are able to meet virtual connections and spill into the real world.
- Features for unleashing attendee creativity. Allow attendees to create content, add photos, build short- or long-form text, post videos, and pose questions. When the engagement happens through the app-without being involved, it will increase the impact of your event. It keeps the momentum running until the next conference.
- Tickets, payment as well as Registration. If your application is able to support the backend of your event, be sure that you have the ability to take payments as well as track lists of members and connect members after.
- Simple building, hosting, and supporting It should not take your entire team long to build an application for conferences off the ground and looking great.
The things we loved which worked with the application
As we think about how we made our mobile-based conference app work, here's what we loved:
- The attendees organically shared their notes during sessions on the discussion feeds that were specifically designed for them.
- Live icebreakers, which resulted in people in the app meeting other users offline (ie. "Find another person who's about the same height as you and take a selfie ).
- Local Boiseans (is that right?) organizing meetups around some of the best restaurants in their area and outings. (The Karaoke session was the highlight. )
- The chat that runs before, during, and following the conference continues to give. For example, Natalie Parmenter (the creator of Primary Focus), gave this shoutout in the video above, following the help of fellow participants to in making her debut a hit!
- ConvertKit opened studio and recording places for customers to drop in and record videos. (If you happen to be in Boise and want to make a reservation, you can set a time to drop in and make use of them free! )

A conference is a place to get acquainted with people, don't you? That's why Mighty provides the technology to help make that possible! Every attendee is prompted to create a bio-they could use AI to design one if they're not able to.
This is where the program produces interactive lists of member profiles that can be sorted by interest, activity or even geographical. The ability to fly out profiles of members helps you find interesting people while the AI engine is able to tell that you share something in the same and help you start a conversation.
Community following the conference
Mighty offers more content choices than only the conference basics, though. It's a great platform to keep community going beyond the conference.
Spaces can be built with eight different options: activity feeds, chat, members, tables of contents (for a course) or events, pages, one occasion, or hashtag. Here are some ways current Mighty Hosts use the features following a conference:
- Regional gatherings that are organised by Supermembers.
- Re-cutting the conference materials to create a virtual class or another learning experience.
- Continue to share articles on subjects that members of your organization want to know about.
