Videos are now a major tool for online instruction for the right reason. For course creators, videos let you speak directly to your learners in a more casual way. Lessons with video provide both a visual and auditorial style of learning that will increase the level of participation.

You may already be using videos to engage learners via your personal YouTube and Vimeo channel. So, why not put your video content into an online course that will increase the amount of passive income you earn?

If, for instance, you already use Vimeo to host videos, you can benefit from another possibility to monetize your videos by turning them into an online course.

Also, you can create a free course with your videos already uploaded to Vimeo and use them to promote your paid course. Making a free course using your content can help you build credibility and makes it easier to market future courses and products to the people who view your content.

In the meantime, before we demonstrate how you can make use of Vimeo to make a course, let's consider the way Vimeo is different from YouTube.

Vimeo or YouTube?

YouTube offers a wide range of benefits. It's free to get started, and it's already the second (or third) largest third largest search engine on the Internet. YouTube is an excellent option to upload videos quickly, and with an easy uploading process.

Although YouTube exposes your videos to a large audience, that may not be the ideal choice if you want to protect the content of your courses. If you're providing paid content and you want to restrict access only to your students to be able to view the videos. If the videos are free and available on YouTube Anyone who owns a YouTube account can view and share with others.

Vimeo provides advanced privacy settings so you can lock down your content to make sure that only students are granted access to the content. Vimeo provides videos without advertising in mid- or post-rolls. Also, unlike YouTube, Vimeo has 24/7 support to help you troubleshoot or assist in navigating their platform.

Vimeo has a free alternative, but for users, it's not going to be able get out of the free tier. You'll be restricted on upload and storage options, and you'll lose out on many of the features that are available on their premium tiers. There's a popular $35/month option which unlocks powerful tools for creating and other features, including custom branding on videos.

With that said, let's demonstrate how you can take an Vimeo show and convert into a training course.
