Installation and painting - The CreativeMindClass Blog

Nicole Mueller is an artist from San Francisco. Her artwork includes large-scale works, murals, and installations that mimic the effects from stained glass. Inspiring by the process, her abstract works are highly saturated, built with layers of collage-like shapes. Her work explores the complexities of colors, states in flux, dichotomies inside painting, the change of being, and the threshold between external and interior, and between the tangible and intangible.

About my background

I'm mostly a painter living and working full-time as artist in San Francisco, California.

My professional experience includes painting murals, installation work in addition to doing arts administration as well as career development.

I took art classes at MICA. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) located in Baltimore in Maryland, where I resided for a number of years before making the move towards on the West coast.

Another big part of my mission and work involves hosting Beyond the Studio with my fellow artist Amanda Adams, a podcast designed to promote visibility in the world of art by interviewing other working modern artists on their professional paths.

About my style

My work is mostly instinctual that is driven by process. abstract, extremely saturated, constructed with layers of color and colors of collage-like forms.

I create large-scale artworks with light-activated glass installations that mimic the effects of stained glass and murals. In this project I'm exploring dichotomies and state of flux and the boundary between outside and inside, the tangible and intangible.

About the key to making my work

I'm of the opinion that that showing up regularly to your job is crucial. For me developing a studio practice and setting myself goals to keep moving forward has made it easier for me to prioritize my work when life gets in my way. It also helps in taking the time to slow down and take a break or rest (for a day, a month, or longer).
