U.S. District Judge James Donato has warned Google that major changes are likely to be imposed upon its Android app store, following an appeals court decided it was illegal to operate there was no evidence that the Play Store is operating as an unconstitutional monopoly.

The Associated Press reports that Judge Donato has suggested that he could require Google to let alternative app stores for Android devices. It is a step that aims to reduce Google's control over the distribution of apps and its billing on its platform. The exclusive control of "nearly complete control" generates billions annually for Google and its partners, however this ruling by the courts could affect this process, with Google anticipating expenses that could be upwards of 600 million dollars.

Google has raised concerns about the possibility of opening up to third-party app stores. Opening up the Play Store to third-party app stores, which could expose users to security threats, leading to what Google refers to as "security disorder. " In spite of these fears, Judge Donato stressed the need for major changes, stating, "We are going to take down the barriers and it will occur."

This case is part of an antitrust campaign that is more extensive than Google and includes a significant case regarding its Google search engine due to be launched in September. Judges are hoping to make an order outlining the necessary changes needed for Google's Play Store in the near future, perhaps within the week before Labor Day.

A piece in The Verge on the same issue lists Epic Games which are benefited from these results as well as the title that reads "Judge James Donato will issue his ruling in the final terms Google offers -- and Epic will be awarded in a matter of weeks."
