Find inspiration for creativity within the ordinary

Cult Classic tells the tale of Lola, a magazine editor located in New York who, though she's just engaged, is feeling a sense of dissatisfaction about her relationships. In the course of a evening, she meets an ex-boyfriend--and another, and another. Lola quickly realizes that a cult governed by her boss was deliberately putting these ex-lovers within her path in order to conduct an investigation. What follows is a funny and thoughtful narrative about revisiting the past and, maybe, making peace with it.

Sloane cannot pinpoint a particular "aha" moment to explain the concept behind the novel however, her personal experience with wellness and contemporary dating were incorporated into the novel. "I think that anybody reading this will be the ultimate wellness and dating specialist today," she says. "We're constantly absorbed in the subject matter, and they often appear as satire within the novels."

The actress did some particular reading on cults in order to get those particular details just right. "I wanted manifestos, or instructions guides from inside the cult, so I could draw on the language to make a comedic point," Sloane says.
