More control over Community notifications -- for you and

Jul 6, 2022

We've updated community notification settings to improve the user experience (and less emails). Here's what's new.

What's the best way to let members know what's happening within your neighborhood?

It is important to inform your customers know about new conversations and engage them in discussions more often -- but you also have to allow the members control over their experiences and avoid notification overload. And we heard from our designers how vital that you strike this delicate equilibrium.

With the latest update to the community features which allows you to and your friends get more control over messages. That means livelier conversations, less flooded with emails, and a community platform that can bring the members and you closer and closer.

Control your own notification preferences as a creator member

Creators and community members have the option of choosing which notification they'd like to get for every topic: new posts and replies to your posts or new responses to your comments.

Once you have logged into a community as a member, go to Settings and then click "Edit" in the Notifications. (Creators will find this option in the Notifications tab in your Account settings.)

It will show all the communities you are following. Just check or uncheck the boxes to control what types of notifications you would want to receive from every subject.

For example, you might want to receive notifications for updates, comments, or responses in an area that is time-sensitive like live Events and Announcements. For other topics, you may want to only get updates whenever someone publishes a new post - or opt out of announcements for that subject completely.

It is also possible to quickly switch your notifications off or on using the buttons "Mute All" or "Unmute the entire".

In addition, you can alter your notifications per-topic quickly from on the "All topics"page or on an individual page for each topic. Click the bell icon, after which you can set your preferences for notifications.

Set default notifications for a topic

Creators can also set standard notification settings for each subject in the community, giving you more control over the member experience.

Instead of sending notifications to members of your organization for each article in each topic You can select which areas your members will be informed about, and what kinds of notifications they get.

Here's how:

From the Community tab of your dashboard, choose "All Topics". Next, select the "..." next to the topic you'd like to edit and click "Edit Topic". From there, choose your notification settings under "Default notifications".

Members are able to change their notification settings at any time to their account. If members haven't changed their settings, they will default to the settings set by the creator for every topic.
