What's your story?

"My moniker is Sylvia Boomer Yang. I am an illustrator, animator and GIF artist from Brooklyn, New York. In my work as a professional I design motion graphics, animated illustrations and storyboards for explainers video series and apps. However, what I truly like to do on the side is to make fun and quirky cartoons as well as stickers that help people smile and encourage them to express themselves."

"I was born in Taiwan and started with fine art school when I was little. I was always drawn to drawing however, I was eventually stifled with a traditional educational style. I felt like I couldn't express my own identity and voice using conventional techniques in art. Learning about fine art definitely helped me to build the base for where I am today."

"I changed to design school in college before moving into New York for grad school. This was when I started experimenting with animations and digital art. Animation gave me the power to combine illustrations and motion in order to tell stories with a lively way. I really enjoyed learning how I could transform still images into motion."

What is the key to making your animated images?

"I am a fan of working with the sense of humor and strong emotions that help people feel at ease, while playing with different mediums as well as creating an original style of design. Designing can be really fun!"

"Collaboration/teamwork is one of the keys I evaluate a lot. I love how team members come up with ideas as a group, and I believe that good work typically is made by a collection comprised of individuals with different strengths and skill sets.

The day-to-day life of I wouldn't stop creating items that inspire me. When not designing motion-based graphics, I'll be found making a mess in the kitchen (lots cook!) or making crafts. I often visit Brooklyn farmers markets , and play using various recipes at my home. The world is full of magical things, I love exploring new cultures, communities as well as innovative art."
