The fiber-artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist and illustrator living in Baltimore. I moved here for school at MICA, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and that's where Nicole Mueller and I met and became friends before we launched the Beyond the Studio podcast together. Since the beginning of the year I've worked hard to build my art-related business, a small one Close Call Studio which I run all day long.

What would you say about your personal style?

My style of art-making whether drawing, sewing or whatever is unselfconscious intended to entertain and inspire others. I can be moody and explicit and some of my work can be kinda introspective, yet there's always some humor and a sense of play.

What is the key to making your art?

It varies from season year, however having the mindset of "no stress" in the studio is absolutely key for me in the present. I've been a huge amount of stress on myself that didn't show well in my work or living. Therefore, allowing space for rest and gardening are just as imperative to my process when I sit down to draw.
