Triathlete's knowledge commerce journey goes through coaching and courses up to a membership-based community

Apr 27, 2022

A doctorate degree in exercise physiology, conducting research that is peer-reviewed, and also training Olympians as well as professional Ironman athletes was not enough for doctor. Dan Plews. In addition, he's a triathlete by his own rights and is the record holder for the 2018 Ironman Age Group World Championship Course Winner record holder. The time was 8:24.36. In the aftermath of his win and his training and knowledge on the subject, he got tons of questions , particularly regarding the lower carbohydrate diet and its application for triathlons that require long distances.

Thus the it was that Professor. Plews decided to monetize his expertise through EndureIQ and added 'knowledge creator' to his list of professions. Let's look at his path.

This interview has been lightly edited for clarity.

The coaching quickly led to courses

At first the Doctor. Plews started out with the direct method of coaching. He acknowledged that there was the things he could do through one-on one consults.

In 2019, Endure IQ got its beginning. "I received so many questions that I decided to turn the course together. In the beginning, I thought, "Oh I'll come up with an easy white course could be posted on PowerPoint'. Then, I talked to a trusted friend and she advised me that if it's entirely your choice to make this, so you must make it a proper job.'"

There are currently four courses that are core along with additional mini-courses. Dr. Plews says, "Our primary courses consist of 10 courses that take between ten and fifteen hours of instruction. Customers get access to the course for an interval of between up to 12 weeks. They also have access to instructors." The courses are accredited by affiliations including USA Triathlon, the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as USA Triathlon.

The courses begin

EndureIQ announced a pre-launch for the course LDT One-on-1. "We declared that we would be limiting it to only the first 50 participants that signed up, and the course went on sale in just three minutes." Dr. Plews recalls.

The courses were a hit! The response, however, was huge. Professor. Plews quickly realized that his students were keen to have access to course material along with the online webinars conducted by the instructors following having completed the course.

He was faced with the challenge of having to keep providing help. The following is his thoughts regarding this issue:

"I decided not to make the class available forever, because it would provide students with the opportunity to ask questions continuously for as long as they want. You're subject to demands of the moment, and that's not how education processes function. As an undergraduate, who enrolls in a course, you get access to experts instructors, professors and teachers throughout the course, but you're not allowed to have them answer your questions throughout your existence."

Generating revenue

Then that the Dr. Plews discovered a way to meet the demands of his customers , in addition to earning recurring revenues through the same materials used in his courses. He devised a five-dollar weekly subscription that allows access to the courses' materials as well as webinars for students who have completed their courses.

"I joined this program almost immediately. It's a good choice because there are a lot of clients who have come back," the man says.

The price is set to a minimum of $5 per week, to include every course that students' have taken so that he can reward loyal students who have attended several classes. Dan said he had 175 students that were part of the group during our meeting. Thus, he is able to bring in a substantial sum of money each week simply by giving access to the materials required that are required for the course, and also being in a position to respond to questions.

Subscription revenue opens doors

In the present, subscriptions bring into the equation revenue. The revenue in turn facilitates additional opportunities for businesses.

The Dr. Plews says, "The most significant benefit of a subscription model is the ability to make better business decisions. When you are guaranteed extra revenue and you're able to be aware about the employees you're bringing in as well as the locations you're putting your money because it's less risky. As opposed to being completely dependent on the new sales, you never know the month that is most likely to produce."

In addition, being a part of a community that has a high degree of activity is an additional benefit - it gives him an active group of people who he can survey to find new courses, or any other pertinent comments.

However, Dan is realistic about the requirements to keep an active group of members. "The disadvantages are that they're not ever off," he says, "There is a significant amount of customer support that comes through the subscription model because members are constantly asking questions."
